Choral Evensong

Choral Evensong is Evening Prayer sung in the tradition of the Anglican church. The form of the service and the liturgical text are taken from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. The Choral Evensong is equivalent to “Vesper” in the Roman Catholic and Lutheran churches. The Evensong was formed based on the monastic daily office of Vesper and Compline. The choir sings the Psalms appointed for the day. The Magnificat is sung after the Old Testament Lesson and the Nunc Dimittis is sung after the New Testament Lesson. The choir sings an Introit at the beginning of the service and an Anthem after the Bidding Prayers.

Our choir has sung Choral Evensong in the Abbey Church of St. Ottilien near Eresing, the Abbey Church of Fürstenfeldbrück and the Lutheran Church of St. Lukas in Munich.

The Anglican Episcopal Church holds a service of Choral Evensong on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (except December and August) at the St. Willibrord Church, in Munich.  Our choir sings for this service in the months of March, May, July and October.

Concerts

Our choir sings concerts in the Munich "Lange Nacht der Musik" as well as on tour. In 2017 a very successful series of concerts were held in the parish churches of Bicester and Kidlington and in the cathedrals of Gloucester and Birmingham.

CAROL SERVICES

Advent Carol Service (Seven Lessons)

The Christmas story is told from the foretelling of the prophets in the Old Testament and then the Annunciation to Our Lady in the New Testament up to the birth of Our Lord. The Lessons are read alternately in German and English. Following each Lesson, a Carol is sung by the choir, based on the text of the Lesson or a different advent text. The congregation then responds with a congregational carol, which is a hymn based on an Advent or Christmas text.

This service is held each year on the eve of the 1st Advent (Saturday, 3.30pm) in the Abbey Church at the Missionary Benedictine Monastery of St. Ottilien, near Eresing. It is about 35km south-west of Munich in Bavaria.

Nine Lessons and Carols

This service of “Nine Lessons and Carols” follows the tradition of King's College, Cambridge.  The Christmas story is told from the foretelling of the prophets in the Old Testament and then in the New Testament through the birth of Our Lord to the visitation by the wise men.  Following each lesson, a carol will be sung by the choir, based on the text of the lesson or a different Christmas text.  The congregation then responds with a congregational carol, which is a hymn based on a Christmas text.

This service is held each year on the 3rd Wednesday of December at 7pm in the Alt-Katholische Kirche St. Willibrord, near Sendlinger Tor in Munich.
